Belief

Belief is an interesting thing. Ask someone what they believe and usually there will be some sort of dialogue on religion (pro or con) that makes up the answer. But we all believe in something, even if it is "nothing" (for to deny the existence of something is a belief just as affirming a thing's existence is). A wise man once said, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

Belief permeates our lives more than most realize. Our everyday actions show that we all must put our faith in things we do not necessarily understand or have not investigated fully (light switches, gravity, love, etc.). Even those who claim to "only believe in what they can see," are making a statement of faith, for they at least believe that what they can see is real. All this is to say that we all have to have a "base of operations" in this world: fundamental truths that we build on.

The facts presented in this website are probably not going to corner you into belief (although they have - notable scholars such as St. Augustine, C. S. Lewis., Mortimer Adler, and Antony Flew were moved to faith by the evidence). But you will be able to read everything on this site without it changing your mind if you want. There will always be one more question, one other lingering doubt, one last possibility of escape from the Truth... but there are answers if you want them. And in the end, belief is always your choice. So what about your faith? You believe in something, you cannot not believe in something, so what is it based on? Do you believe in God? In the Bible? Tough questions! Maybe you answered, "I believe in a higher power, but not in organized religion." Perhaps you have come up with a question, some argument, some dilemma that no Christian has been able to answer or to explain, and you've felt justified in continuing your unbelief. Often, though, arguments are just smokescreens thrown up to avoid the truth.

I was just like that before I was a believer. It was my goal to expose the ignorance of religion and religious people from any group, and I could leave most Christians eating my intellectual dust in 5 seconds flat. Most. In time, however, I started running into people who did answer my questions, and guess what??? It didn't change my mind one solitary bit. Why? Because I did not really care whether there was an answer or not, I would just find new questions! I did not want to have my questions answered, because I did not want to have to deal with God. I knew I was not living for Him; I was not even living considering Him. But I never would have been open to the possibility if it had not been for those with the answers. And I did not, as they say, "check my brains at the door" when I became a Christian. In fact, it has led me to a higher level of study than any other activity I have ever been involved in. That is why I've spent the last several years trying to answer my own questions.

God wants you to know Him, He already knows you and everything about you. If you have honest questions that are keeping you from following God, and having the relationship with Him that you were made for, then you deserve answers. There are good questions. On this site is a basic belief structure that, whether recognized or not, is the basis for Christian belief. I leave it up to you to decide if it is viable. Reality is reality, do not let your desires steer you away from the Truth.

Without faith it is impossible to please God,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
-Hebrews 11:6
